The Cougar Athletic Boosters raise money to support all student athletes at Asheville High/SILSA through concessions sales, cougarwear sales, sponsorship/banner sales, and annual passes. The funds we raise are donated directly to the Athletic Department, so that no child at Asheville High/SILSA has to pay to play. That money helps pay for uniforms, equipment, field officials, team travel expenses and more. In addition, we have fun cheering on our awesome athletes and supporting our terrific staff of coaches. Won't you join us?
Donations are tax deductible as the Boosters are a 501c(3) Not-for-Profit organization. Where would you like to volunteer? |
Mission
An organization of parents, staff and alumni linked by a common desire to support the student athletes of our public high school, our primary purpose is to aid and encourage the development of athletic programs, promote school spirit and encourage athletic participation, and to ensure that athletic participation remains free of charge for all students, so that no child has to pay to play.
Through the volunteer efforts of parents, staff and alumni in selling banner sponsorships, spirit wear and concessions at athletic events, the Cougar Athletic Boosters are able to donate funds directly to the school athletic department to purchase team equipment, uniforms and other team related expenses. Funds are spread evenly among all sports, ensuring that every child has the opportunity for athletic achievement and participation.

History
Before 1981, Asheville High Football games were played at Memorial Stadium. In 1983, Memorial Stadium was pronounced unsafe and Asheville High was unable to host any home games. In the face of this obstacle, the team still went on to become the 1983 Division II State Champions.
The Booster Club, although struggling to make money itself, stepped up to help the athletic department by creating the Life Cougar Membership to raise money for a new stadium. The Life Cougar Memberships were available from 1983 to 2000. Plaques listing the Life Cougar members can be found in the trophy windows in the gym. The plans for the stadium included two concession stands, one at each end of the field. Because of cost overruns, only one concession stand could be built. The Booster Club was given a vacant classroom to use as the Visitors Concession stand. A 1983 Agreement between Asheville High Administration and the Booster Club states: “The Concession stands are to be operated under the absolute and total control of the Booster Club with no input or interferences from the school”. The Booster Club further “has sole control (of the Concession stands) and no other organization, group and or school may have use of our facilities or equipment unless approved by the Booster Club Board”.
